Ruth Ilson Counselling & Psychotherapy

For the last twelve years I have worked as a psychotherapist and counsellor in the Stoke Newington, Hackney and Islington areas. I hold a postgraduate diploma in Integrative Humanistic Psychotherapy — a two year course run by the South Bank University in conjunction with the Whittington Hospital — and a Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling from London University. I then continued my studies for a further two years and was awarded an Msc in Psychotherapy for my thesis, Dilemmas of Difference from the South Bank University.

My original training was as music therapist, using instruments and voice as a way of communicating with adults who have learning disabilities and I continue to run these sessions. I am involved in facilitating reminiscence therapy groups for the voluntary sector. I have also run workshops in ways of communicating for Islington and Camden Social Services.

I have worked for over twenty years in a variety of medical and mental health settings.
