Wing Chun emphasises the use of body structure, relaxation, straight line punches, low kicks, explosive energy and simultaneous attack and defence. As these principles do not rely on size or strength Wing Chun can be taught equally to both men and women. Our aim is to teach and promote Wing Chun as taught by Grandmaster Ip Chun (son of Ip man) and Sifu Colin Ward in an open, safe, relaxed and friendly environment.
The Huddersfield Wing Chun School opened in summer 2013 as part of the Northern Wing Chun Kung Fu Association. The school is run by Lee Maloney and Rik Garrad, senior students of Sifu Colin Ward, an Ip Chun-certified master of the art and a senior worldwide representative of grandmaster Ip Chun. The association was established in 1991 in order to teach and promote original and 'pure Wing Chun' in the United Kingdom.
By 'pure Wing Chun' we mean, in its simplest, most practical and most effective form without 'adding' onto the system, unnecessary and non-Wing Chun techniques.
Lee and Rik are fully certified instructors with the Northern Wing Chun Kung Fu Association and are MAFCUK registered. Having trained both in the UK and in Hong Kong together they have over 27 years of martial arts experience, 20 of which have been dedicated to Wing Chun under Sifu Colin Ward.
