Formally, I worked as a biomedical scientist within NHS pathology departments in various parts of the country. In 1986 I became the technical manager of the Cellular Pathology Department at Victoria Hospital Blackpool.
As a result of a back injury I became interested in alternative approaches to treatment and in 1996 I decided to study Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine) at the Northern College of Acupuncture, York.
After seven years of intensive study, I graduated in Acupuncture (2000) and Chinese Herbal Medicine (2003). For several years I was locum clinic supervisor at the Northern College of Acupuncture, York. I also supervised students in the acupuncture clinic at University of Salford and lectured on Anatomy and meridian theory as part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) degree course at Salford.
