Any electrical installation work in the north is carried out in full compliance with BS 7671:2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations - the 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations (also known as the IEE Wiring Regulations).
Conversely in the south (e.g. Buncrana and Inishowen) all work is carried out in accordance with ET101:2008/A3:2018 - the 4th Edition of the ETCI National Rules for Electrical Installations incorporating Amendment No. 3. (This includes Amendment No. 1 (2011); Amendment No. 2 (2016) and Amendment No. 3 (2018).) Following the winding up of the Electro-Technical Council of Ireland (ETCI), the 5th Edition will be issued by the TC2 committee under the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) banner as I.S. 10101 which will be an Irish Standard and a legal document. (A draft for public enquiry of Irish Standard 10101:20xx has recently been published.)
