Ian Van Hoof Opticians was established in 1985 with the opening of the Mosborough practice, followed in 1989 by the Swallownest branch. The two practices have now combined in the Swallownest premises, which is all on the ground floor with easy parking. Ian trained at UMIST, now part of Manchester University, and went on to work in North Wales combining mainly private practice with sessions at the eye department of St Asaph hospital.

He moved to Sheffield in 1983 working in various practices as a locum optician until opening his first practice in 1985 (see above). He lives in Sheffield with his wife and two (now adult) children. He is a member of Rotherham Local Optical Committee and has been involved in organising Continuing Education and Training for other local opticians through the lecture programme of the Sheffield Association of Optometrists.
