It is difficult to confirm without seeing the tyre and this information should be taken as guidence only! For cars, vans and light trucks there must be 1.6mm of tread covering not less than 75% of the center of the tyre. For a motorbike and lorry the tread must be at least 1.0mm and covering not less than 75% of the center of the tyre.
A number of manufactures claim that a tyre of less than 3mm will double your braking distance! For example your tyre might have "205/55R16 91v". The R means its a radial tyre. The forth is the load rating and the letter V is the speed rating.
