Below we answer some of the most common questions that clients ask when planning their garden studio. Do I require planning permission for my garden studio? No, not if your floor area is under 15 square metres. Gardens rooms of this size fall under permitted development. If you floor area is between 15 and 30 square metres then a 1 metre boundary needs to used around each side if this can't boundary can't be reached then you will need building regulations to protect the building from fire. Garden rooms cannot exceed 2.5 metres at eves height. How big can my garden room be? Technically you can build over 30 square metres if your space allows however you will need to obtain building and planning permission. Is it possible to have a toilet in my studio? Yes, if you are above the drains and connect to it.
