Scoliosis is a spinal axial deviation, more or less fixed depending on the structural and functional aspects of the disease. Spinal deviation is followed by typical trunk deformities, bending sideways and rotating to the side of the convexity of the sideways curve. The process begins with taking a full history, including date of diagnosis, classification of curve, x-ray findings, any complicating medical conditions, factors affecting risk of progression and prognosis given.

Once we have characterised the patients scoliosis as precisely as possible, we can start to devise a treatment plan. We will use the combination of Schroth exercises that best address the patients needs. This is acheived by developing awareness of body position and learning to use the right muscles to reinforce curve correction and postural stability. Gaining competence in exercise performance will usually take a week.
