Some forms of medicine have existed almost unchanged since the earliest written records and cropped up in almost every culture ever known. One of the most common has been the use of stimulation to encourage change, relieve symptoms or help people understand a new phase of life. Ever since I can remember I had a fascination with these and asked questions like: What do these therapies really do? Are they effective? Is there anything they can still offer us in the modern world?

I found these issues peaked in acupuncture where an ancient art has been found effective enough to have many aspects adopted by modern medical professions, but where so much is still fiercely contested that the ancient texts and theories are still in use.
