SVG owner Andy Johnston and Mick Barter competed in the 25th Pirelli Classic Marathon. This event was organised by HERO Events and the Classic Rally Association. The car used was Andys 1967 Toyota 1600cc Corona prepared by SVG This car also successfully completed the 2008 Marathon.
The rally started in Ypres Belgium and finished in Cortina d'Ampres Italy over 6 days through Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, and crossing lake Lucerne, finally over the Dolomites into Cortina. Total distance 2300 km with 33 Navigation and Regularity sections and 12 off road tests.
The heighlights being the mountain passes of the Giro d' Italia and the "Stelvio Loop" with the legendary 48 hair pin climb climbing to 2757 m to the snow capped summit, finally to the finish in Cortina d' Amprezzo "Jewell of the Dolomites". The Toyota although not the most "powerful" competitor came a credible 25th from a field of 55. With more capable navigators may be she could have been higher in the running order!
