Osteopaths study for 4-5 years for a master degree. This is similar to a medical degree but with more emphasis on musculo-skeletal medicine. All osteopaths undergo an extensive practical training in diagnosis and treatment. Other subjects of study include anatomy, physiology, pathology, psychology, orthopeadics and rheumatology, pharmacology, exercise physiology and nutrition. Many osteopaths also train as naturopaths. Naturopathy utilises the healing powers of nature, which together with osteopathy can be applied to any type of complaint in any part of the body.
