I am equally at home agonising over the colour harmonies in a planting schedule or briefing a glass blower on the fineties of glass texture and petal shape as I am discussing the nuances of foundations on a building plot with a horny handed groundworker. I am as fluent in Latin, bouncing round exciting ideas for plant varieties with a client, as I am with technical jargon in dialogue with an air source heat engineer. My creativity draws on the clouds and the flowers but I love to get my hands dirty- that's the way my drawings and ideas bring the client's vision to a living breathing reality.

My greatest frustration is clients, quite naturally, seeing garden and home as separate. Too many times, I have turned up as an extension or house is near completion where, had I worked with the architect, doors and windows were in the wrong place, vistas are missed, hardstanding is in the wrong place.
