Lucky Sixpence Gifts

Lucky Sixpence Gifts

For many, many years people have believed that a sixpence is a lucky coin. During the late 1940's the supply of silver coins slowly disappeared. It was then that sixpences became the coin, as tradition had it, to put into Christmas puddings. Children would hope to be the lucky one to find the sixpence, no doubt also encouraging them to eat more pudding.

Sixpences have also been seen as a lucky charm for new brides. There is an old rhyme which goes Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. And a sixpence for her (left) shoe.
