I have had lots of experience working with children, starting in 1999. I worked as a special needs classroom assistant. The child I assisted had behaviour problems. As well as working on a one to one basis in the classroom, I also organised group games in the playground, which encouraged the other children to play along side my charge.
I then worked for Social Services, working along side young adults with learning disabilities. This was a challenging post which was very rewarding.
In 2004 I started work at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. Here I worked on the Burns and Plastics Unit, as a Health Care Assistant. I was able to work with a wide range of age groups, from new born to teenage years. I did a wide variety of duties from playing with the children, feeding, comforting, assisting the nurses with minor surgical procedures, to organising an Early Birds clinic for minor injuries. I was also responsible for doing all the clerical work on the ward.
