I believe that the best child portrait photography involves much more than sitting a child in front of a white background and asking them to smile for the camera. The images of my own children that mean the most to me are the ones in which their personality shines through because they are relaxed and at ease in front of the camera. I believe in spending time with the children I photograph, and their parents, getting to know what makes them tick, before I even pick up my camera.

My name is Lisa Marie Gee. I am a wife and devoted mother of two in addition to running my business. I am a portrait photographer specialising in child photography, but I started out as a newspaper journalist, for which I trained at the University of Central Lancashire. As a journalist I spent years trailing around after stories with press photographers, watching them work and along the way influencing my own style of photography. I think that is why I am most comfortable now with a relaxed style of reportage photography.

Candid portraits of children at play has become my signature style of photography, probably because I always have a camera in hand chasing after my own two children. A keen hobby developed into a career as my photographs of my own children started to attract attention on Facebook and requests for informal portrait shoots started to come in. I have fully portable photography studio kit that can be set up in anyone's home. I find children relax more in a familiar environment.
