The aim of the clinic is to allow patients to make informed decisions about their health. The importance of this first struck me as a graduate in 1987 when I realised that most people walking into my office were well informed and highly motivated to get better. They had to be by their very attendance because back then few people were aware of the benefits of chiropractic and complementary medicine in general.

Most patients attending the clinic for the first time are seeking the relief of some symptom, usually pain. Once the initial problem has settled a choice has to be made between stopping treatment until the next bout of symptoms (reactive care) or adopting some sort of health maintenance programme (proactive care). We are all familiar with the dental model of keeping our teeth healthy and it is not difficult to extend this to our general health.
