When I purchased my first property in India, it was a daunting task getting the right paperwork, making sure the transfer went smoothly and getting possession of the family home. Unfortunately, there was no help available at that time and I struggled through the whole procedure. As a NRI, I was ripped off everywhere I went as I just didn't understand the system. Being raised in the UK, I was taught from an early age to be polite to people by saying ‘thank you', ‘please', ‘excuse me' all the time. I was taught never to litter nor spit in any country and disciplined to join the bank/post office queues properly instead of doing a mad stampede to the front of the queue.
