Herts & Essex Shotokan Karate

The Herts and Essex Shotokan Karate Association was formed in 2002 by Sensei Roger Mutonga, 4th Dan, who studied under the tutorship of Sensei Roger Hall, 8th Dan, and Sensei Michael Nursey, as a member of the English Shotokan Karate Association (ESKA). Sensei Hall and Sensei Nursey were both students of the world reknowned, and one of the most respected traditional karate masters of all time, Kancho Kanazawa.

Shihan Roger Hall has instructed Shotokan Karate for over 40 years producing nearly 1000 black belt students, including Sensei Mutonga. He has now retired but regularly trains with us and offers guidance to our members. He is highly repected and an inspiration to all those who know him.

Sensei Mutonga has trained up to thirty students to black belt level to date and continues his own study, regularly attending seminars and training events, including those held by Kancho Kanazawa.
