Dougs career started when he left school at 15 to take a 6 year apprenticeship as a diamond setter and engraver, followed by 2 years National Service as a dental technician. He then joined Ernest Jones to establish and run a manufacturing division and workshop, servicing over 120 retail outlets.
In 1979 he opened his first small shop and workshop in the Lanes of Brighton, manufacturing his own designs, with only one member of staff. He now employs over 40 staff in his 5 retail stores with workshops and 4 pawnbroking shops.
