From Something Imagined

Based on the South East Coast of England I shoot photographs of nature. I am a visual artist and photographer and my work is deeply influenced by the sea. I shoot seascapes and architecture found around coastal settings. I also seek out to photograph unusual shapes to create an abstract expression of an object or space. In my online photography gallery, my work is presented in 3 categories - Water | Shadows | Shapes. My black and white photography has a strong influence on my painting and studio work.

Vanessa Perry is a Visual Artist and lives on the South East Coast of England. Vanessa paints and draws purely from her imagination and uses photography as a way of finding compositions. Passionate about the sea, Vanessa draws on her coastal environment for inspiration and spends much of her time with her camera walking along the coast, hiking up the cliffs and travelling on ferries to get a closer look at the water, its movement, colours and the changes in light.

Vanessa moved her studio to the South East Coast from Battersea, London, in 2014. Since then her work has changed and moved in a different direction using more muted colours and working with plaster. Vanessa completed a new body of work in 2015 entitled ‘Second Self’. This collection explores her relationship with the sea and her environment, and of course her relationship with ‘self’.

Vanessa’s most recent work continues to explore shapes in the water and the memory of water. What Vanessa is trying to convey in these pieces is that the sea takes on a new shape from moment to moment, challenging the assumption that waves are only a series of curves when in fact the sea can be full of lines, triangles and other shapes that don’t conform with our assumptions about the sea.
