Comprehensive treatments involve the application of braces with possible placement of plates or expanders along with the possibility of jaw surgery. Individual assessments are made on the right and devices are chosen depending upon the clinical findings. In some patients, intercepted treatments are offered where braces and other orthodontic treatments are provided in a stepwise fashion over different sessions. A variety of appliances may be used to align the teeth and correct any bite problems.

There are a number of different kinds of places that may be used in orthodontic treatments. Full braces are metallic braces that are applied to the front of the teeth for a period of up to 24 months. Part braces for those that are attached to only those street that are affected by misalignment. Lingual braces are metallic braces that are applied to the inner surface of the teeth. Unfortunately metallic lingual braces can be rather annoying and uncomfortable as they rub against the tongue during different jaw movements. Finally, self-ligating braces are also available that have low friction rates and do not require frequent visits to the dentist.

These days, new therapies have emerged with the braces being available in a literally ‘invisible’. Braces such as Invisalign sit comfortably behind the teeth, and are invisible to an observer. They work tremendously well, and have high patient satisfaction rates. Invisible braces are also called clear braces. A removable appliance is one where the device can be taken out of the mouth in order to be cleaned. It is attached to structures through wires and springs and allows for teeth to be aligned in a gentle fashion.
