Event Tyres

Mark Shankland and Gary Moloney established Event Mobile Tyres Ltd in 2003. Initially operating out of three second-hand transit vans from a depot in Manchester, Mark and Gary have grown Event Tyres into an award-winning mobile tyre fitting service with national coverage. But just as with all good stories their journey can be traced back much further in history.

Mark’s grandfather, George Sproson, began the family interest in tyres when he took up work for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company at their new factory in Wolverhampton in 1927. It was Goodyear’s first factory to open in England, and it gave George the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills that he would use throughout his life.

In 1930 George left Goodyear to set up his own tyre remoulding business – Hayson Tyre Service Limited. The company operated successfully for some 40 years until it was bought out by National Tyre in 1970 when George retired.

Chris Shankland, George’s son-in-law, continued where George left off. Formerly a National Accounts Manager with Michelin Tyres, Chris decided to strike out on his own. He set up Town and Country Tyres, an iconic tyre fitting service in the 1970s and 1980s, which he ran successfully with his son, Mark Shankland.
