I can build new stud/partition walls using either a timber frame or a more modern metal frame. Traditional timber framework is more affordable and found more in domestic properties. Metal framework is more for stud/partition walls, ceilings, and encasement systems. Therefore more suitable for commercial and industrial buildings. Such as offices and factories and conforms to fire regulations. Each time I build stud work I always use at least 2×3 timbers and fix with proper timber screws. When fixing to masonry I use torx concrete screws as these are very strong. Which also have a great bite into most brick and blockwork. I cover all forms of dry lining. Plasterboard is the most popular way to line your internal walls and ceilings. Years ago it was to lath, plaster and then skim. This was very costly due to the labour and time taken involved. It’s now better practice to board and skim. As the labour involved is usually a little less and repair costs are usually less too. Plasterboard is fastened in a couple of ways. Either mechanically by screws or drywall specific nails or chemically, by plasterboard adhesive. known as dot & dab. When fixing I use screws not nails. Unless its drywall nails due to having little rings, therefore act like screws. Standard nails will slip over time and blister the plaster. Known as nail pop.
