Uckfield is a pleasant town with an excellent community spirit and a population of around 15,000. It is in a good central position, with several large towns good for shopping within 20 to 45 minutes away. The town has a Tesco and Waitrose, both offering home delivery. Other large retailers include Halfords, Boots, WH Smith and Peacocks, as well as a good variety of specialist retailers and coffee shops. There are also a good number of charity shops for bargain hunters.
The Picture House is the town’s cinema, which has recently been refurbished. One of the longest-established in the country with state of the art facilities.
The South Downs National Park and Ashdown Forest are just a few miles away, with stunning views from the higher parts. Ashdown Forest has protected heathland habitat, comparable to the New Forest. It is known as the home of the well-known children’s book Winne the Pooh.
Trains: London Bridge is an approximately 1 hour 30 minute train journey away from Uckfield Station with trains running every half hour at peak times and hourly at other times. One change at East Croydon takes you to Victoria.
South of Uckfield lies Brighton and Eastbourne, both excellent for shopping and easily accessible by car or bus. The smaller town of Lewes (on the way to Brighton) is popular and picturesque and is the County Town. Tunbridge Wells and East Grinstead to the north are good alternatives and again accessible by public transport.
