I studied at Nottingham University and obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in Geography. After qualifying I worked on a building site as a labourer for two years. I then commenced training to become a chartered surveyor - via distance learning at the College of Estate Management, Reading. In 1998 I was elected as a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). I have run my own practice since 1999.
I managed two offices for a large independent surveying practice in the South East for nine years and was chairman of the organisation for two years. During this time I have always undertaken building surveys, party wall duties and defect analysis.
I am currently in the final year of studying for an MSc in Conservation of the Historic Environment. I have been awarded the Purcell Miller Tritton prize for the best overall performance at year 1 and year 2 of the course.
