I have been working as an NHS speech and language therapist (SLT) for some 16 years. My training was at the University of Central England where I qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Pathology and Therapeutics.
Over my career I have worked in a range of community and clinical settings – firstly as a generalist in Darlington, then developing a specialism in Deafness in Kent, before moving back to the North East.
I currently work part-time as lead therapist within the NHS, where I lead the Hearing Impairment Speech Therapy Service and also work in a Speech and Language Base with primary school-aged children with severe and complex speech and language disorders.
I am a registered member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (MRCSLT), the Health Professionals Council (HPC Reg.) and the Association of Speech & Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP).
I am a mother of two boys (aged six and eight) so I have a personal insight into the challenges of bringing up children and ensuring they have the confidence and skills to communicate effectively.
Outside of work, I am vice chair governor at Boroughbridge Primary School and try to stay fit by attending the gym.
