JL McAteer opened as Henderson's Opticians in the 1940's He retired in 1983 and Passed the store onto Lynne. Lynne successfully run JL McAteers for almost another 40 years before taking retirement in 2021. Paul Campbell a with many years experience in Independent and Multiple Opticians comes in with a wealth of knowledge to his hometown to provide the future of Carrickfergus eyecare for the next 40 years.
J L McAteer's is an independent optician's practice situated close to the de Courcy Centre, in the centre of Carrickfergus. We are a World Host Recognised Business for Excellence in Customer Service. Previously she had worked for opticians in Belfast; firstly for Petticrew's in Cornmarket and then for David Allison Henderson in Upper North Street. It was Henderson's practice in Carrickfergus that Lynne bought 30 years ago. Then it was a small practice in Market Place. Five years later, as the business grew, the practice moved to premises in North Street.
Then in 1996 the business moved again to its present location at 7 Lancasterian Street. We offer a caring and professional service for all the family, including a complete range of quality products at affordable prices. We provide comprehensive eye examinations using modern equipment and advanced computerised techniques. Employees working with computer screens and those requiring industrial safety spectacles are also catered for.
