We are delighted to announce the launch of a brand new online resource designed specifically for childminders to assist them to meet their safeguarding responsibilities. BCMA has been working with leading child protection experts at the ChildProtectionCompany.com to produce an online training course: Child Protection for Childminders.

Currently it is not a legal requirement for Ofsted Registered Childminders to have written policies, however most Bromley Childminders now have portfolios containing some written policies. Policies are a great way to convey to parents how you conduct your organisation, look very professional and offer some protection if things start to go a little wrong. They are also great to show Ofsted how you are meeting a lot of the inspection outcomes. They could make the difference between 'satisfactory' and 'good' or even 'outstanding'. Ofsted do not expect newly Registered Childminders to have a whole range of written policies, but they do expect that any policies shown to them do reflect that Childminders practice and haven't just been copied from another Childminder's portfolio. Remember, a good Childminder will regularly review their policies making amendments if there are any changes in the law/standards and if something has happened in their own practice.
