For a reasonable fee, generally less than your legal charges to your solicitor or substantially less than the fees you pay the estate agent to see you can have a chartered surveyor inspect the property and give you a report on condition, maintenance aspects and value. And thrown in free, is peace of mind.
A survey should not be confused with a mortgage valuation report. The mortgage valuation will give your mortgage lender assurance for its loan. It will not give you an assessment of the condition of the property, or advice about repairs and maintenance.
