When I left my first career in the Royal Navy in 1990 to have my children, I trained in cake baking and decorating at the prestigious Mary Ford school in Poole, Dorset, and have been making celebration cakes ever since. Highlights of the last few years include supplying a three-tier, banana-flavoured birthday cake for hollywood star Renee Zellwegger while she was in town for the filming of Miss Potter.
