David and Claire live on the farm in Cranbrook and farm 200 acres with two differing soil types - a heavy clay for arable crops and a light sandy loam for apples and pears.
The Cranbrook Barn Store building was originally a supermarket accredited apple pack house but the fruit now goes to a high-tech facility in Hampshire for grading and sales to all of the major supermarkets. The farm is allowed to use the Red Tractor assurance label and the Leaf Marque label [Linking the Environment and Farming] because of its high standards.
We are surrounded by 40 acres of woods and there is a lovely public footpath down through them. The woodland is designated a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) because the microclimate in the Gill [steep valley] nurtures rare moisture loving plants. The farm is located in the High Weald on the edge of the river Rother catchment area and enjoys splendid views to the south.
