Authentics

Authentics
Situated near to Glasgow University the area was once the home of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his circle and the influential 'Celtic Revival', A rts and Crafts metalworker, Margaret Gilmour. In fact her workshop was literally around the corner from Authentics. Nowadays the area is a haven for cafes and artisan, independent and quirky shops.

The owners, Paul and Robert, come from a design background having worked in display and merchandising and television prop buying. Both have a lifelong interest in antiques and design and they have been trading in the shop since 1993.

Dealing mainly in Nineteenth and Twentieth Century furniture and lightimg, the shop is crammed with an exciting and eclectic stock which constantly evolves and changes. Paul and Robert pride themselves on sourcing the unusual and the quirky and present it to the highest standard. They can often be seen restoring furniture, polishing metal and rewiring lighting. It is a 'hands on' business and there is always work to be done!

Speaking recently Paul and Robert said Our first sale in the shop was a woven willow chair by the Dryad workshops. We were thrilled then and we are still excited that our customers share our enthusiasm and love the things we buy. Our maxim is that we would never sell anything which we wouldn't have in our own home.
